Animated Halloween in the Works

September 29, 2003 by Ryan Ball divider image

Trick or treat? Independent film production company Simon Tse Prods. says it is developing an anime version of horror master John Carpenter’s 1978 slasher classic Halloween. The company announced the project on its web site (www.simontseproductions.com), where it is hosting a poster design contest.

Simon Tse Prods. has not yet said if the animated Halloween will employ new voice talent or use the existing soundtrack from the live-action version, nor has it released any story information.

Would-be poster artists can take a crack at designing a one-sheet for the film. The company is now accepting posters featuring hand-drawn or computer-created images from the Halloween franchise. Up to 5 posters per applicant are permitted. Deadline is Oct. 10. For guidelines and more information, visit www.simontseproductions.com.

Simon Tse Prods. has offices in Tokyo and Hollywood. Other projects in the works include feature versions the Sega games Virtua Fighter and Shenmue, the latter made of footage from the game, and another version of author Yoshikazu Takeuchi’s trilogy of short stories Yume Nara Samete (Let Me Wake Up, If It Is a Dream), which producer/director Satoshi Kon (Millennium Actress) animated as Perfect Blue.
