A trio of new releases look to shake up the box office this weekend, lead by the Zac Efron comedy 17 Again.
The Warner Bros. movie opens at more than 3,000 theaters, making it the weekend’s widest new release.
Coming in just behind it in 2,700 theaters is State of Play, a serious thriller adapted from the British TV miniseries and starring Ben Affleck and Russell Crowe.
Also entering the mix is the action movie Crank: High Voltage, starring Jason Statham. The Lionsgate release will open in about 2,200 theaters.
Holdovers should continue to score well, including last weekend’s champion Hannah Montana: The Movie, surprise smash Fast & Furious and DreamWorks Animation’s long-legged 3-D feature Monsters vs. Aliens.
