Oscar Selections Announced
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts
and Sciences today released the list of animated films eligible
for competition in the 75th Academy Award ceremony. The
executive committee of the Short Films and Feature Animation branch
has approved the following 17 films for inclusion in the race for
Best Animated Feature Film. The field will be significantly narrowed
when nominations are announced on Feb. 11 at 5:00 a.m. Pacific time.
Under the rules for the category, a maximum of five films can be
nominated.

anime offerings Metropolis, from director Rintaro, and Bandai's
Escaflowne. Those films failed to meet requirements due to
theatrical release timing.
