The Paramount/Nickelodeon/Klasky Csupo big-screen Wild Thornberrys outing will open the seventh edition of the festival and International Conference of Television Animation known as Cartoons on the Bay., to be held in Positano, Italy from April 9-13.
Based on the popular Nickelodeon series, The Wild Thornberrys Movie is one of 262 projects from 31 countries entered for competition this year. Of those, only 35 programs from 12 countries have been nominated for the Pulcinella Awards, the festival’s top prize in seven categories.
France leads in nominations with a total of eight, followed by the U.S. with seven, the U.K. with five and Canada with three.
Famed artist and animator Jules Engel, whose credits include the Disney classics Fantasia and Bambi, will be honored with the Pulinella Lifetime Achievement Award. Engel developed the TV projects Gerald Mc Boing Boing, Madeline and Mr. Magoo. He is also the director and founder of the Experimental Animation department at the California Institute of the Arts.
Cartoons on the Bay is conceived and organized by Rai Trade and promoted by Rai Radiotelevisione Italiana.
