The Visual Effects Society is launching a tour that will bring three top vfx professionals to five major cities in India. Tim McGovern, Peter Chiang and Eric Roth will travel to Ahmedabad, Hydrabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai from Oct. 27 through Nov. 2 to discuss the tricks of their trade and the state of the visual effects industry.
Visual effects supervisor Tim McGovern made his foray into the industry as a computer animator and programmer on the groundbreaking 1982 Disney feature Tron. He has since worked on such hit flicks as Total Recall, So I married An Axe Murderer and As Good As It Gets. Most recently, he lent his talents to the films A Sound of Thunder, Equilibrium, FeardotCom and Supernova.
Peter Chiang is a BAFTA- and Saturn Award-nominated visual effects supervisor whose recent credits include Stardust, The Bourne Ultimatum, Flyboys and United 93. He got his start in the industry as a special effects graphic artist on the 1983 fantasy film Krull, before working on such favorites as Labyrinth, Batman and Pitch Black. He even appeared onscreen as a spaceship traveler in cyrogenic sleep in Pitch Black.
Eric Roth is the exec director of the VES, responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the organization including strategic planning, fundraising, membership outreach and communications. Roth joined VES in 2004 and has seen the 8-year-old outfit experience significant growth in both worldwide membership and influence in the entertainment industry. A veteran strategic management, communications and public affairs professional, Roth brings more than 15 years of experience to his position at VES. He also learned a lot about the non-profit sector during his tenure as exec director of L.A. Works, a volunteer action center in Los Angeles.
The Visual Effects Society was formed in 1997 in response to the explosive growth in the vfx industry. The professional, honorary society is dedicated to advancing the arts, sciences and applications of visual effects, and to improving the welfare of its members by providing professional enrichment and education, fostering community and promoting industry recognition.
