Stuttgart Taps 39 Projects for Animation Production Day

A healthy total of 39 animation projects representing the efforts of 14 different countries have been selected to take part in the 10th edition of Animation Production Day at the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film on April 28 & 29.

Animation Production Day is aimed at introducing both German and international toon producers to potential co-production, investment, broadcast, distributor and finance partners in intimate, one-on-one project pitch meetings. The 2016 edition received a record 54 submissions, which were narrowed down by jury to 13 feature films, 23 series and three gaming or special projects. Most of the titles being presented are planned as transmedia entertainment brands.

Of the 39 selected projects, 13 are German productions — five of which come from up-and-coming producers whose participation is sponsored by the APD. The other 26 projects come from Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Macedonia, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey and the U.K. Together they represent a total production budget of roughly 150 million euros.

Broadcasters and investors confirmed to attend APD this year include Disney, Turner, Canal+, France Televisions, Super RTL, ZDF, KiKA, Nelvana, Technicolor, DHX, Saban Brands, SWR, WDR, BR, Global Screen and m4e.
