Animator James Baxter will be on hand to teach a drawing lesson and judge a contest for kids at this Sunday’s screening of Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron at the Mann Bruin Theatre at 948 Broxton in Westwood, Calif. The festivities will begin at 2:00 p.m. Children can bring their own Spirit drawings to the theatre and get their family members into the special screening for free.
Before the screening, Baxter will lead the audience in a 20-minute presentation on “How to Be an Animator.” Baxter is one of the world’s top animators, best known for creating such memorable characters as Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Rafiki from The Lion King, Quasimodo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Moses from The Prince of Egypt.
Baxter and his team of animators will then judge DreamWorks Animation’s “Draw Your Own Spirit” contest. Winners will be announced and their art displayed after the screening.
In addition to $250 worth of art supplies, grand prize winners will also have their drawings published in a Spirit advertisement in The L.A. Times and will each receive a special private screening of DreamWorks’ next animated film Sinbad: Legend Of The Seven Seas, starring the voices of Brad Pitt, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michelle Pfeiffer.
Schools and other youth organizations also are invited to participate. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.
