Mobile entertainment publisher and content provider Sorrent Inc. has signed a multi-year deal with animation entertainment producer and licensor ShoPro Ent. to develop and publish mobile content based on the popular anime and graphic novel series, Inuyasha. Through the agreement, fans will be able to access Inuyasha-themed messaging, wallpapers and games directly from their mobile phones.
Inuyasha is a creation of world-famous manga artist Rumiko Takahashi. More than 30 million copies of the graphic novels have sold worldwide and the animated series is currently ranked No. 1 on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block. In addition, VIZ LLC has sold more than half a million copies of both Inuyasha DVDs and graphic novels. VIZ will release the first Inuyasha movie, Affections Touching Across Time, on DVD Sept. 7. The highly anticipated feature will premiere at Comic-Con 2004 on Friday, July 23.
In addition to Inuyasha, San Francisco, Calif.-based ShoPro Ent. has brought such popular animated properties as Hamtaro and MegaMan NT Warrior to broadcasters and consumers around the world. The company is a subsidiary of Japan’s Shogakukan, Inc.
With offices in San Mateo, Calif. and London, England, Sorrent Inc. publishes single and multiplayer mobile games based on original and licensed properties including an award-winning suite of FOX Sports titles.
