Ringling Duo Nab Toon Gold Medal at Student Oscars

Ringling College of Art and Design students Lindsey St. Pierre and Ashley Graham won the gold medal in the animation category at the 40th Student Academy Awards for their film Dia De Los Muertos.

The silver medal award went to Will, a film by Eusong Lee from California Institute of the Arts, with the bronze going to Peck Pocketed, by Kevin Herron, also from Ringling.

The three films had previously been announced as the winners, with the placement revealed this weekend at a ceremony hosted by actor Bob Saget and featuring as presenters actors Clark Gregg, Jason Schwartzman and Quvenzhane Wallis.

The Student Academy Awards were established in 1972 to support and encourage excellence in filmmaking at the collegiate level. Past Student Academy Award winners have gone on to receive 46 Oscar nominations and have won or shared eight awards. The roster includes such distinguished filmmakers as John Lasseter, Pete Docter, Robert Zemeckis, Trey Parker and Spike Lee.
