Renegade Animation’s new toon short, Sausage Party, will make its world premiere at the Illinois Int’l Film Festival on Saturday, Sept. 15. Written and directed by Darin McGowan, Renegade’s director of development, the 2D comedy will screen at the historic Arcadia Theater in St. Charles, Illinois.
Sausage Party tells the ironic story of an optimistic pig who happily reflects on his life and his future, completely unaware that he’s next on the chopping block. ‘It’s Pollyanna in a slaughterhouse,’ says McGowan. The film was produced at Renegade’s Glendale, Calif. studio in less than a month by a small team of animators using Flash and the company’s proprietary ‘paperless’ animation pipeline.
The short is the first project for Renegade Animation’s recently launched development department, which is dedicated to crafting wholly original content in house. The studio plans to develop Sausage Party as a series for television or the web, and is also developing several other projects for theatrical, television, home video and Internet distribution. Also in the pipeline is an animated mobile series intended for cell phones.
Renegade Animation produces Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi for Cartoon Network and recently completed its first animated feature, Christmas is Here Again. Directed by Robert Zappia, the movie featured the voices of Kathy Bates, Ed Asner, Shirley Jones, Andy Griffith, Norm Macdonald, Brad Garrett, Colin Ford, Daniel Roebuck, Jay Leno and Madison Davenport. The company is also producing Mr. Men and Little Misses, based on the popular children’s book series, for Cartoon Network.
Other shows to Renegade’s credit include the Cartoon Network series Re-Animated and Captain Sturdy, as well as the Annie Award-winning web series Elmo Aardvark: Outer Space Detective. More information on the company can be found at www.renegadeanimation.com.
