Producer’s Guild Goes Into Effects
The PGA New Media Council will delve into the world of visual effects for the third in a series of informative industry networking events scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 21 at Sony Imageworks in Culver City, Calif. On hand to discuss their careers and answer your questions will be effects producers and executives behind Stuart Little, Spider-Man, Enterprise, The Matrix, Terminator 2 & 3, Mortal Combat, The Hulk and more.
Michelle, Murdoca former visual effects Producer and VP of animation for Sony Pictures will lead the panel discussion. Murdoca served as senior visual effects producer on the Academy Award nominated Stuart Little and most recently as associate producer and senior visual effects producer on Stuart Little 2. The event focus on key issues in visual effects production including the state of the business, producer credit issues and the production process for visual effects.
Who hires the visual effects producer? What are the basic responsibilities of the visual effecs producer? What is the difference between a visual effects supervisor and a visual effects producer? What is involved in the visual development process of digital effects? How does the EFX production pipeline work? How do you budget for and schedule the EFX process? What are the current and emerging tools of the trade in EFX technology? How does one become a visual effects producer? These questions and more will be answered.
The panel will consist of: Lydia Bottegoni, currently senior visual effects producer for Sony Imageworks, overseeing EFX production of the upcoming Spider-Man sequel; Gail Currey, VP and exec. in charge of production for Industrial Light & Magic; Dan Curry, recently nominated for an Emmy for his work on the series Enterprise; John DJ DesJardin, visual effects supervisor on The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions; John Gaeta, senior visual effects supervisor on The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions; and Alison Savitch, president and co-founder of Threshold Digital Research Labs and founding board member of the Visual Effects Society.
Networking/cocktail hour will begin at 7:30 p.m. followed by the panel discussion at 8:00 p.m. There is no charge for active PGA members. There is a $10 charge for guests accompanied by active members and a $20 fee for non members and inactive members.
