Canadian CG house Rainmaker Entertainment’s short Luna came out on top at the California International Shorts Festival (CISF), picking up its first major festival circuit win with the Best Animated Short honor and is set to screen at CISF this month.

Inspired by an original in-house concept from producer Luke Carroll, the five-minute CG animated noir film depicts the flirtatious dance between a debonair caterpillar and a stunning moth. The short was produced and written by Rainmaker president and exec producer Catherine Winder and directed by Donna Brockopp (The Jungle Book 2, Peter Pan’s The Return to Never Land). Luna debuted in August, when it was selected to screen at SIGGRAPH’s Electronic Theater as part of the Computer Animation Festival. The film has also been recognized with Official Selection honors at New York City International Film Festival, Chicago Children’s Festival, Kansas International Film Festival, FLICKERS Rhode Island Film Festival and Silicon Valley Film Festival, and an Honorable Mention from the Metropolitan Film Festival of NYC.
