Los Angeles Animation Festival is accepting student entries for two competitons with deadlines on Oct. 1 and Oct. 10. A $1000 cash prize and several thousand dollars worth of software will be awarded in the Rock In’ Animation music promo competition, and roughly $5,000 in software prizes will be handed out in the Ghost Story/Spooky themed competition. The event will be held Oct. 20-21 at the Silent Movie Theater, located at 611 N. Fairfax Ave.
Special programs designed to help animators find careers in the animation industry will be presented at 11 a.m. on each day of the event. A host of industry professionals will cover everything from how to cut a reel to where to look for jobs, what not to do at an interview, how to pitch a show and get it made, and how to build your own studio. Attendees can also benefit from catered networking parties taking place after every screening.
Seating at the venue is limited and tickets are selling fast. Tickets can be purchased online now at www.laafest.org. The site also features a full festival schedule, which includes a 35mm screening of Rene Laloux’s influential animated sci-fi feature Fantastic Planet, and the world premiere of the 26-minute documentary Fantastic Laloux.
