Jennifer Yu Nelson, the acclaimed director of DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 2 and the film’s production designer Raymond Zibach are two of the featured speakers at SIGGRAPH Asia, which takes place Dec. 12-15 at the Hong Kong Convention Center this year. Nelson and Zibach will take attendees through the extensive research they did to prepare for the animated feature and discuss their trip to China to research important cultural elements that were part of the project as well as the complex CG animation they used in the summer blockbuster.

Ken Perlin (Oscar-winning professor at N.Y.U. Computer Science Department) and Bill Buxton (computer science expert and principal researcher at Microsoft) are two of the event’s other distinguished speakers.

The event will feature various panels on the art and technology of computer animation and the applications in gaming, advertising and features. Attendees can also enjoy some of the top CG-animated and vfx-laden projects of the year such as David Crisp’s Last Fall,  Damian Nenow’s Paths of Hate, Petr Marek’s Mr. Choco in Love, and Anabel Sebag’s Vie d’Enfer at the popular Electronic Theater and Computer Animation Festival screenings throughout the program.

Early bird registration ends on Oct. 31.
