The deadline for submissions for Turin, Italy’s Virtuality Conference is coming up fast. According to event organizers, you must submit paper, abstract, video or art material or enter material to be considered for the Virtuality Awards Competition material no later than October 15, 2007.
Similar in tone and content to the annual SIGGRAPH event in the U.S., Virtuality focuses on both academic and commercial aspects of CG animation and digital visual effects. Virtuality 2007 (Creating a Digital Future) will focus on exploring the increasingly fluid boundary between real and virtual worlds. Through lectures, meetings, tributes, exhibits, art installations, screenings and demo presentations Virtuality will reveal the new digital frontier sweeping from cinema to architecture, from automotive design to advertising, from medicine to videogames.
Among the events planned for the eighth edition of the confab, which takes place Nov. 6-9, are a special program devoted to digital set design for movies with Oscar-winner Grant Major (Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong) and Tino Schaedler (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Golden Compass) and world-renowned virtual media artist Franz Fischnaller (CITYCLUSTER). Animation fans can look forward to a screening of the Annecy Festival prize-winning CG-animated movie Free Jimmy, hosted by filmmakers Christopher Nielsen and Khan Kluay.
This year’s Award Jury members are Maria Elena Gutierrez (assoc professor at SUNY Buffalo) Rientro dei Cervelli Grant (University of Turin), Sabine Hirtes (professor and studies coodinator and 2D/3D software support, Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany), Marie-Anne Fontanier (director, Supinfocom Valenciennes, France), Valentina Tanni (director, Exibart.it) and Vincenzo Lombardo (assoc. professor, MultiDAMS, University of Turin).
