International Animation Shines In Budapest Fest

Varga, one of the European animation houses behind Preston Pig and Mr Bean – The Animated Series will host a series of screenings featuring acclaimed animated works from the past decade. Dutch, Russian, British and American animation talent will be celebrated when the monthly Varga’s Film Klub kicks off on Nov. 13, 2002 in Budapest.

Au Bout du Monde (First At the Edge of the Earth), from Russian writer/director Constantin Bronzit, will get the event rolling. The 10-minute film, created at French studio Folimage, won Best Film at the 1998 Annecy Animation Festival. Bronzit’s 1-minute short about the meaning of Christmas, Die Hard (1996), will also be shown.

Other award-winning shorts to be screened include Russian director Michael Aldashin’s Bookashkis, Iron Giant director Brad Bird’s The Family Dog (1998), Dutch director Michael Dudok de Wit’s 1998 Oscar-winning Father and Daughter and English director Mark Baker’s social satire The Village (1993).

Alexei Alexeev, Varga’s Creative Director and a series director on Mr Bean — The Animated Series, will host the Nov. Film Klub. The free event draws an audience of more than 400 people each month.
