The ILL Clan Inc, a New York-based 3D animation and video game studio, will perform an improvised, 3D-animated comedy show at Cinema Classics in New York’s East Village on Aug. 28 at 8:30 p.m. This unusual Machinima performance is part of the Imagine Festival of Arts, Issues & Ideas, an event designed to inspire, instigate and support civic engagement during the Republican national convention.
The ILL Clan’s performance will include one of their signature shows, On the Campaign Trail with Lenny & Larry, about two politically oblivious lumberjacks who hope to get the two cushiest jobs in America–President and Vice President. Using video game technology, ILL Clan players, all New York improv veterans, will voice and control the 3D characters in front of the live audience.
The animation is created using Id Software’s Quake engine and replacing the game’s graphics with custom cartoon-like 3D models. The ILL Clan first employed the process to perform a show called Common Sense Cooking at the 2003 Florida Film Festival. More recently, the group performed as part of the New York Video festival at Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater.
The Festival of Arts, Issues & Ideas (Aug. 28-Sept. 2) will also feature such performers as Margaret Cho, Lewis Black and E.L. Doctorow at numerous venues around the city. More information is available at www.imagine04.org.
