The organizers of Cartoon Forum have issued their wrap report for the 26th edition of the co-production event, which took place for the fourth consecutive year in Toulouse Sept. 15-18. Cartoon Forum 2015 had record participation, with 900 producers, investors, distributors and buyers from 33 countries taking part. Among the 91 projects from top European studios and fresh-faced newcomers, 53 of these were cross-media concepts.

Host country France dominated the selections with one third of the presented projects. Many of these French concepts were among the top 10 most popular at the show, including The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales (Folivari), Belle and Sebastian (Gaumont Animation), Max & Maestro (Monello Productions), Abraca (Ankama Animations), Anna & Froga (Vanilla Seed), Gigantosaurus (Cyber Group Studios), No-No (Autour de Minuit Prod.), Cherry Coco (Millimages) and Mr. Carton (Tant Mieux Prod.)

Ireland was also well represented by project such as Dorg Van Dango (Cartoon Saloon), Dougie Noir (Kavaleer Prod.) and Burrows (Telegael). Other highlights from across the continent were Dickie (De Hofleveranciers, Belgium), The Ogglies (WunderWerk, Germany), Animanimals (Studio Film Bilder, Germany), Dino Mite (M.A.R.K. 13, Germany), Lili (Dansk Tegnefilm, Denmark), Bestiacce! (Studio Bozzetto, Italy), and U.K. projects Interstellar Ella (Tinker Labs), Iggy and the Missing Links (Adorable Media) and The Trouble with Mum (Spider Eye).

France and the U.K. also dominated the prestigious Cartoon Tributes and Cartoon d’Or awards. For Cartoon Tributes, Broadcaster of the Year was awarded to Children’s BBC (CBBC, U.K.), and French companies Superights and Vivement Lundi! received the Investor/Distributor of the Year and Producer of the Year honors, respectively. The Cartoon d’Or award for best European short animation went to British animator/writer/director Daisy Jacobs for The Bigger Picture, her MA graduation film which has also been nominated for the Best Animated Short Academy Award and received the Best Short Animation BAFTA.
