FMX 2015 Looks to the Future

The FMX conference on animation, effects, games and transmedia — set for May 5-8 in Stuttgart this year — will be looking at a broad range of topics related to the future of the industry as they relate to “Immersion and Virtual Realities.” The event will bring together numerous industry experts to explore the impact of these technologies on financing, content creation, distribution and viewing behavior across platforms. As in previous years, attendees can continue these conversations at Animation Production Day May 7, presented in partnership with the Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film.

On the creative side, production designer Patrick Hanenberger is curating sessions on concept art, with creature designer/concept artist Terryl Whitlatch (Star Wars Episode I) and concept/character designer Chris Appelhans (Coraline, Monster House, The Fantastic Mr. Fox) set to attend.

And curators Prof. Dr. Susanne Marschall and Dr. Rada Bieberstein will analyze “animation as fine art” with a set of presentations. This will include “Animation Wld ‘n Strange” from Prof. Andreas Hykade (Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg) and a collection of personal favorites put together by Shelley Page (DreamWorks Animation).

The organizers also promise interesting tracks exploring virtualization technologies and new business trends. Visit fmx.de over the next few months for more information.
