To recognize the Studio that brought Betty Boop, Popeye, Superman and other beloved cartoon characters to life, the office of Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penales has named July 10 Fleischer Studios Day in Miami-Dade County. The proclamation will be presented this evening on the opening night of the 3rd annual Rewind/Fast Forward Film and Video Festival, taking place July 10-13 in Miami.
The festival is honoring Fleischer Studios, which produced classic animated cartoons in Miami from 1938 to 1943. Jeff Peel, director of the Miami-Dade Mayors Office of Film and Entertainment, will present the proclamation.
Fleischer Studios, now based in Los Angeles, still handles activity for the classic Betty Boop, along with King Features, which handles the world-wide licensing for the character.
