The five Golden Globe nominees in the Best Animated Feature category were announced this morning in Beverly Hills. They are:

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn

The Adventures of Tintin (Paramount)

Arthur Christmas

Arthur Christmas (Sony/Aardman)

Cars 2 (Disney/Pixar)

Puss in Boots (DreamWorks)

Rango

Rango (Paramount)

Among the well-reviewed movies that didn’t make the cut were DreamWorks Kung Fu Panda 2, Disney’s Winnie the Pooh and GKids’ Chico and Rita. In fact, not even a single 2D traditional movie made the list this year. Gnomeo and Juliet picked up a Best Song Nomination for Elton John’s “Hello, Hello.” The Golden Globe Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, Jan. 25.

To put things in perspective, last year, the Golden Globe nominees were Despicable Me, How to Train Your Dragon, The Illusionist, Tangled and Toy Story 3. Pixar’s Toy Story 3 went on to win the Golden Globe and the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Although the Hollywood Foreign Press members are known for their love of star-studded parties, free gifts and lavish trips to beautiful locations, for some strange reason, they are seen as fairly good predictors of what the Oscars have in stores as well.
