Cartoons On The Bay Accepts Competition Entries; Deadline For Prospective Candidates Is Jan. 20

Cartoons on the Bay, the Festival and International Conference of Television Animation has issued a call for entries to compete for the Pulcinella Awards 2003. The competitive section of the fest, promoted by RAI and organized by RAI Trade, will be held in Positano, Italy from April 9-13, 2003. All products in animation for television and Internet (series, television specials of feature and medium length and short films), including pilots of series are eligible. Works completed after the 1st of January 2002 and created with any kind of animation technique may participate. There is no entry fee.

Five programs will be nominated for the Pulcinella Awards for each of the eight categories: best TV series for infants, children, teenagers and adults, and all audiences; best pilot of a series; best TV movie, best European program and best short film. A prestigious international jury will also award the prizes for the best program and the best character of the year.

This year, competition will also be open to short films not produced, co-produced or pre-acquired by a television company. In addition, the Video Library will be expanded and improved to allow producers and distributors to obtain a list of the delegates who have viewed their programs. This service will be free of charge.

In last year’s festival, 43 programs from 12 different countries were selected for competition, while 112 entries from 20 countries were included in the Showcase for a total of 155 new animation programs available to buyers, distributors, multimedia publishers and all others.
