ASIFA-Hollywood will salute the independent toon studio behind Mr. Magoo, the Oscar-winning short Gerald McBoing-Boing and other animated classics from the 1950s and ’60s when it presents "A Tribute to UPA." The event takes place Saturday, April 24 at 3 p.m. at the American Film Institute.
Special guest Tee Bosustow will discuss the studio his father, Steve Bosustow, ran in the ’50s. The presentation will include videotaped interviews with the senior Bosustow, Dave Hilberman, the late Jules Engel and others. Rare 35mm prints of UPA cartoons will also be screened.
The tribute will be held in the Ted Ashley/Warner Bros. Screening Room of the American Film Institute at 2021 N. Western Ave., Hollywood, Calif. Admission is free for ASIFA-Hollywood members and $10 for non-members. For more information, visit www.asifa-hollywood.org.
