While stop-motion animation legend Ray Harryhausen destroyed many cities with his rampaging monsters over the years, he spared Madrid. But that’s not why the Madrid Regional Govermment and Fifth Annual Animated Image Int’l Festival of Pozuelo de Alarcón (Animadrid 2003) is honoring the man behind the movie magic of Jason and the Argonauts, The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, One Million Years B.C., Clash of the Titans and many more.
Organized by Pozuelo de Alarcón Town Hall and the Art Council of Madrid Regional Government, Animadrid 2003 will take place Dec. 8-14 in Pozuelo de Alarcón. Highlights will include a Harryhausen retrospective to feature Jason and the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans. The celebrated animator is scheduled to make a personal appearance.
The fest will also pay tribute to noted Spanish animator Jordi Amorós, producer of such films as Love Stories and Massacre and Despertaferro, and Belgian producer/author Raoul Servais. In addition, short films, features, Latin-American TV pilots and schools will compete for the event’s prestigious awards.
