Alias today unveiled its lineup of events for this year’s SIGGRAPH convention in Los Angeles, Calif. The confab marks Alias’ debut as an independent company following its acquisition from SGI by Accel-KKR and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. Alias will kick off its presence at the show with its Annual User Group Association (AGUA) meeting, followed by the popular Maya MasterClasses and a variety of papers and panels featuring Spider-Man effects house Sony Pictures Imageworks, Shrek 2 producer PDI/DreamWorks and award-winning filmmaker Chris Landreth (Ryan).
More than 2,000 CG industry professionals are expected to attend AGUA, which will take place in downtown Los Angeles at The Orpheum Theater on Sunday, Aug. 8. Sponsors NVIDIA, HP and Intel will join Alias for a tribute to the company’s customers. Landreth will be on hand to profile his award-winning animated short, Ryan, and Naughty Dog will showcase its Jak 3 project. This year’s Maya Masters will also be awarded on the AGUA main stage. Artists from around the globe will be honored for their work as talented leaders in the field of 3D. Past Maya Masters include Scot Brew, Chris Landreth, Takahito Tejima, Jason Schleifer and Habib Zargarpour.
The popular Maya MasterClasses will take place at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel (Hollywood Ballroom) Aug. 9—14. The 16 unique, 90-minute sessions will explore various aspects of Maya for the creation of films, special effects and video games. Landreth will offer more insight into the making of Ryan, Adrian Graham from Toybox will present Particle Instancing and Erik Miller of Digital Domain will discuss Hyper-Real Facial Rigging.
Visitors to booth #1312 will be able to check out such Alias products as Maya 6, StudioTool and Alias SketchBook Pro, as well as Maya Unlimited and other new software available for Mac users.
