“Pencils not pixels!” is the battle cry at the heart of the first-ever 2D Expo, a one day symposium and conference for traditional animators sponsored by ASIFA-Hollywood. The festivities will get under way at 9 a.m. and continue until 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, on the campus of Woodbury University at 7500 Glenoaks Blvd. (corner of Buena Vista & Glenoaks) in Burbank, Calif.
Attendees will have opportunities for networking between meetings, screenings and panel discussions on such topics as “2D: The Next Direction,” “Flash Animation,” “Doing It Yourself” and “Distribution/Promotion.”
Guests and panelists for the event will include director Eric Goldberg (Looney Tunes: Back In Action, Fantasia 2000), designer Shane Glines (Batman Beyond, CartoonRetro.com) animator Mark Kausler (It’s The Cat), creators Lili Chin and Eddie Mort (‘Mucha Lucha!) designer Stephen Silver (Kim Possible, Danny Phantom), storyboard artist Gabe Swarr (Ren & Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon) and actor Mr. Lawrence (voice of Plankton, Larry the Lobster, Fed and Tom on Spongebob SquarePants).
The event will conclude with a special evening screening of unsold pilots. This collection of rare 2D pilots that didn’t make it to air will be presented from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. with some of the filmmakers present.
Tickets are $20 for ASIFA Members, $30 for non-members. Students get in for $15, though admission is free for Woodbury College Students. Access to the networking/exhibit area is free to all attendees and admission to the evening screening (after 6 p.m.) will cost $10. For more information, see www.asifa-hollywood.org./current.html#2D.
