The International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood, has announced its call for entries for the 44th Annual Annie Awards will commence on Monday, August 22. The awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, February 4, 2017 at UCLA’s Royce Hall.
Honoring excellence in the animated production spectrum, the 44th Annies will present awards in nine production categories (including Best Feature, Broadcast Production, Short Film) and 22 achievement categories (Best Animation, Direction, Production Design, Music, Voice Acting, etc.), as well as up to five honorary awards which will be considered for lifetime accomplishments, philanthropy, technical advances, special achievement and meritorious service.
ASIFA-Hollywood Executive Director Frank Gladstone noted in the announcement that though the submissions will not open until Aug. 22, the organization is responding to feedback from previous entrants saying that a preview of the entry process helps things run smoothly.
Step-by-step instructions for submission can be found at annieawards.org/how-to-submit; Categories and Rules are at annieawards.org/rules-and-categories. Annie Awards submitters can request further assistance through submissions.annieawards.org.
Entries must be from animated productions released in the U.S. between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016. Commercials, short subjects, special projects and student films do not require a U.S. release.
Additionally, ASIFA-Hollywood is conducting the Call for Nominating Committee Judges for the 44th awards through August 26. Registration has been simplified, but both new and previous applicants must submit a new application. ASIFA-Hollywood membership is not required, but prospective judges must have an established career in animation and exemplary professional credentials in at least one Annie Award category.
The final deadline to join or renew membership in ASIFA-Hollywood to participate in Annie voting is Monday, December 16.
Once the Call for Entries opens, submissions can be sent through annieawards.org/how-to-submit.
