With X-Men Origins: Wolverine having shredded box office expectations last week with a hefty $85 million haul, Fox is proceeding with development on a spinoff Deadpool movie and a Wolverine sequel.

Variety reports Ryan Reynolds will return as Wade Wilson, the “merc with a mouth” for the Deadpool film. Lauren Shuler Donner will return to produce the film with Marvel.

The studio also is in the formative stages of a direct sequel to Wolverine that will see Hugh Jackman’s clawed mutant head to Japan.

Also in Fox’s plans for the X-Men franchise is X-Men Origins: Magneto, with a script by Sheldon Turner ready to go, and X-Men: First Class, a look at young mutants written Josh Schwartz.

I will embrace nothing less than the comic book version of Deadpool. Too much deviation from it with this flick will constitute a disappointment in my eyes.

That being said, I\'m glad to hear that my favorite antihero is getting some appreciation.
