Iron Man Crosses $300 Million

As The Incredible Hulk attempts to smash new competition in theaters this weekend, Marvel Studios’ and Paramount Pictures’ Iron Man passed a major milestone in retaining its status as the movie to beat this summer. The superhero blockbuster starring Robert Downey Jr. has become the first movie of the year to pass the $300 million mark in North America.

Paramount’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is hot on Iron Man’s tail with more than $280 million earned since opening nearly a month ago. Other top spring/summer earners include Fox Animation’s Horton Hears a Who! (154 million), The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian ($134 million) and DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda ($130 million). If any upcoming movie has a shot at eclipsing Iron Man, its Disney Pixar’s WALL●E. Opening on June 27, the latest animated effort from Finding Nemo director Andrew Stanton promises to be another heart-felt hit from the Pixar pipeline.

Spider-Man 3, Shrek the Third and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End all grossed more than $300 million last summer, with the web slinger’s third outing leading the pack in receipts.

  Go IRON MAN! That was actually a decent film. I hope Hollywood finally learned something from this. Get off that high horse and allow the folks that know how to produce their own product, produce a decent film. Simple formula right?
