VES Awards to Air on HDNet

Those who missed this year’s Visual Effects Society Awards in Hollywood can catch the telecast on HDNet on Wednesday, April 2 at 9 p.m. Taped at the Kodak Theatre Grand Ballroom in Hollywood on Feb. 10, the awards program features Steven Spielberg receiving his lifetime achievement award in front of a sell-out crowd of more than a thousand visual effects wizards, animation artists and other professionals working in film, television, commercials and video games.

DreamWorks/Paramount’s Transformers was a big winner at 6th annual event, snagging four major awards. Other winners included the Disney/Pixar’s Ratatouille and Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, and the video games Halo 3 and World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. Nominees included Sony Pictures Animation’s Surf’s Up, Paramount’s Beowulf and the SCI FI Channel series Battlestar Galactica.

HDNet airs original comedy, drama, news, sports and music programming in high definition, featuring such TV favorites as Arrested Development, The Black Donnellys, Star Trek: Enterprise, Dead Like Me, Smallville and the hit, supernatural BBC series Torchwood. HDNet Movies also features major studio theatrical releases that are all uncut, unedited and appearing in their original aspect ratio.
