Disney, Zemeckis Calling All Robots

Walt Disney Picutres and filmmaker Robert Zemeckis’ ImageMovers are joining forces to produce a performance-capture feature titled Calling All Robots, according to Daily Variety. Inspired by the Godzilla movies, the sci-fi adventure tale will be co-written and directed by Michael Dougherty, an animator and scribe whose screenwriting credits include the superhero flicks X2: X-Men United and Superman Returns. Disney is reportedly eyeing 2009 for release.
Calling All Robots is an original concept by Dougherty, Breehn Burns and Simeon Wilkins, who will collaborate on the script. Dougherty made his directorial debut on the Bryan Singer-produced horror film Trick 'r Treat, which Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures will put out this Halloween. Burns and Wilkins served as storyboard and concept artists on that production.
A completely digital film, Robots will employ ImageMovers’ patented performance-capture technology previously used in Zemeckis’ Beowulf, Monster House, The Polar Express and the upcoming A Christmas Carol. Zemeckis will produce the pic with Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey.
