CBS Blocks out KEWLopolis

The CBS Television Network has banded with DIC Ent. and American Greetings Properties (AGP) to launch a new branded programming block dubbed KEWLopolis on Saturday, Sept. 15. The three-hour, E/I-compliant chunk of airtime will feature the new animated programs Care Bears: Adventures in Care-A-Lot, Sushi Pack, Dino Squad and Strawberry Shortcake, as well as returning shows Cake, Horseland, Sabrina and Trollz.
Care Bears and Strawberry Shortcake will kick off the first hour of the block, followed by Cake and Horseland in the second hour. Sabrina and Trollz will be moved to the third hour until Nov. 3, when they will be replaced with newcomers Sushi Pack and Dino Squad.
KEWLopolis will also offer animated interstitials with "TinPo" characters, showcasing such themes as problem solving, overcoming adversity, the value of teamwork and seeing things from a different perspective. A web destination and official site, www.KEWLopolis.com, is being created for the launch of the block and will tie into all of the Saturday-morning programming.
While Care Bears and Strawberry Shortcake are fairly well known commodities, Sushi Pack from writrers/producers Tom Ruegger and Nicholas Hollander (Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures, Pinky and the Brain) introduces kids 6-11 to five crime-fighting pieces of sushi that protect Wharf City from over-the-top diabolical villains. Aimed at kids 9-11, Dino Squad features five quirky teens who suddenly gain the power to transform into dinosaurs. Guided by their science teacher, they learn to work together and use their unique abilities to protect Earth from an anthropomorphic Velociraptor who is creating mutant-saurs and accelerating global warming in his quest to bring back the age of the dinosaurs.
