By: Thomas J. Mclean

The original writers of Who Framed Roger Rabbit? are back on the job, developing a script for a sequel to the classic 1988 mix of live-action and animation.
Robert Zemeckis, who directed the film, said original writers Jeffrey Price and Peter Seaman were working on the project, he told MTV News.
Zemeckis says he would return to direct the film, and that he was uninvolved in the any of the sequel or prequel projects rumored to have been in the works over the past two decades.

While Roger Rabbit did so much to breath life into
animation back then, it is a sad commentary that
these studio genius producers retread sequels,
prequels and remakes. It is a commentary on
our times when new material cannot be developed
and yet our creative communities are probably better
than ever before.

Will the same level of skilled 2D animation blended with live action work as well today as it did in 1988? We will never find out because Bob Zemeckis cannot stop himself from turning even this landmark 2D property into another of his mocap CG nightmares.

I wonder if they can ever top the animation in the original- many people still consider it to be the most groundbreaking they ever saw! I hope they have the budget for it, what with Zemeckis focusing solely on CGI mocap!

Is Bob Hoskins coming back? Regardless of liking or not liking him in other stuff he carried the live action portion of the original (and reportedly was quite adept at working with an absent co-star).
Curious to see how this develops...

Some classic films are better left alone.

I must agree with the majority of the feedback thus far -- Not really sure they should tread on what I consider was a classic live-action/animated feature. The original storyline, the acting, the comedy and suspense was amazing. But to try and recapture lightning TWICE...I don\'t see it.
I only hope the director and writers still have enough magic in their pocket to make the sequel as amazing as the original. Good luck!

It\'s too late. If they made it back in the 90\'s, it might work, but no one cares about Roger Rabbit any more.
