Green Hornet’s Flight Delayed Again

Sony has pushed back the release date for Michel Gondry’s adaptation of The Green Hornet to December 17, 2010, according to Variety. The superhero pic, starring Seth Rogen, was originally set to arrive in theaters on July 9, 2010. However since the director just begins shooting the picture this week, it would make it impossible for the visual-effects-laden project to be ready in less than a year.

Rogen portrays a smooth-operating newspaperman (Huh? Does that profession even still exist?) who turns into a mysterious crime-fighter at night known as the Green Hornet. Hong Kong action star Stephen Chow co-stars as his loyal valet Kato. Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz are also rumored to star in the movie as his archenemy and love interest, respectively.

The Hornet was created by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker for an American radio show in the 1930s. The masked hero has also appeared in several film serials in the 1940s, a TV show in the 60s and comic book series from the 1940s to the 1990s.

To make matters even more complicated, the new Hornet movie will now be competing with Warner Bros.’ new live-action/CG-animated version of Yogi Bear and Sony’s CG-animated adaptation of The Smurfs. Disney also announced that it will open its much-buzzed-about Tron Legacy on the same day.

  The Chrysler 300 already looks like the Green Hornet\'s car. But it would be more Hollywood to wait until the car is no longer made and then rebuild one out of platinum at a cost of one trillion dollars.
